“Return” from the Beneath the Surface series is rooted in the life cycle of sea turtles, where survival is rare from the very beginning. Only a small fraction make it from hatchling to open water, and fewer still reach maturity. Those that do spend years moving through the ocean—driven by instinct, navigating vast distances without a fixed path.

What drew Tristan to this subject was not the odds, but the moment that follows them. After years of movement and survival, something shifts. There is an internal pull—precise and undeniable—that leads the turtle back across thousands of miles to the exact beach where it was born.

The painting holds that moment of return. It is not about the journey itself, but the certainty that ends it—the instinct that cannot be reasoned with or resisted. Within the work, that pull becomes something recognizable: a quiet, internal knowing that moves without hesitation, completing a cycle that was always in motion.

Once your purchase is complete, I personally hand-inspect the artwork and prepare it for shipment.
